Pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS) is the name given to a chronic condition of reversed blood flow to your pelvis. It results in pain, swelling, and discomfort. Whilst researchers haven’t arrived at a definitive cause of PCS, it mostly occurs post-pregnancy in women. We are Las Vegas Surgical Associates and have a roster of experienced surgeons in treating Pelvic Congestion Syndrome.
Pelvic congestion syndrome, medically also known as pelvic venous insufficiency, is a chronic pain syndrome involving reversed blood flow in pelvic veins or veins specifically in the patient’s ovaries and other areas of the pelvis. These veins can sometimes twist and become overfilled with blood causing pooling of blood in the pelvic area, which in turn will cause swelling, the sensation of pressure, and pain for the patient.
What’s The First Step?
The first step in getting some relief from Pelvic Congestion Syndrome in Las Vegas is scheduling a consultation with one of our expert surgeons who deals with this area of specialty. Your surgeon will discuss your medical condition, history of surgeries as well as any pre-existing health issues that might intervene in the process of surgery and recovery. Whilst there is no cure for PCS, there are certain medications and procedures that can relieve you of the pain. Your surgeon will examine you to discuss the best approach for your condition.
At the end of the consultation, your surgeon will give you a surgical plan which you can then take to our patient coordinator to price out, schedule your surgery as well, and give you any pre-operative instructions.
If you are not relieved by medication, your surgeon might recommend surgery to relieve your PCS.
On the day of your Pelvic Congestion Syndrome Surgery, your surgeon and their friendly staff will welcome you and go over your surgical plan once more. Then, an anesthetist will administer anesthesia to make sure you are pain-free. In this surgery, your surgeon will block the problem vein that is causing blood backflow. They will put a catheter in the ovarian and/or pelvic vein, inject chemicals to inflame the veins, and other medically permissive obstructions to block the vein.
After your procedure, your surgeon will monitor you in a recovery room to make sure the sedation wears off. We recommend you have family or a friend drive you home to be safe.
Depending on which procedure you received, Pelvic Congestion Syndrome Surgery Recovery can vary. If you received an ovarian vein embolization sclerotherapy or a Laparoscopy, you need complete rest for one to two weeks. If you received a Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, you need even longer; we recommend two to six weeks of rest and recovery.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of Pelvic Congestion Syndrome Surgery in Las Vegas will depend on various factors including the complexity of your case, your surgeon’s fees, and the anesthetist’s fees. The most efficient way to arrive at a cost is to schedule a consultation with one of our providers who can give you a surgical plan that can then be priced out.
Most medical insurance policies will cover surgery for Pelvic Congestion Syndrome, but we encourage you to check in with your insurer first. While you will have more information to provide your insurance company after your consultation, it’s always a good idea to come in with as much information as possible so that there are no surprises.
