Dr. Daniel Barrera obtained his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Central Florida. He then completed a post-baccalaureate research fellowship at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. He received his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He then completed his General Surgery residency at Centura Health St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado. He underwent additional fellowship training in Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery at AdventHealth in Orlando, Florida.
He has a special interest in the management of benign and malignant diseases of the liver, pancreas, bile ducts and foregut. He also has an interest in Robotic Surgery and is certified on the DaVinci platform.
He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract as well as the American Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Society.
Dr. Barrera was raised in South Florida from a young age. He is a native of Colombia and speaks Spanish fluently.
